Project Rembrandt

Rembrandt was a Dutch painter famous for self-portraits. He was one of the greatest visual artists in history. We started the lecture by talking and discussing the history of art mainly paintings from various places and times. We got to understand about ideologies and mindsets of artists in their times and how current affairs affected their artworks.

After that brief lecture, we were provided Rembrandt project files mostly images of self-portrait paintings.

We got to know the aim of the project was to learn about

- Sequence and their settings in Premiere pro.

- What difference does it make from working in different frame rates(25,50)

-Morphing cut between the photos

-Introduction to Animation.(position,scale,rotation)

-Playing around with the opacity

In this whole project, we got to learn about most of the things in Premiere pro. We started by selecting the particular codec for our project and its importance of it. Then we imported all files into our source window and dragged some matching photos to the timeline. We had to tweak properties a little bit to get them aligned so that the eyes of portraits stay in the same position. We did like a minute of it and then applied the morph cut effect from the video effects library. It took a little to analyze photos and morph them into the next one but the results were satisfying. We had to elongate the transition so we can edit it in a new sequence to get more smooth results.

We made a new sequence with the same settings 1080 25. Imported our clip in it to alter time and duration by right-clicking the mouse on a sequence in the timeline. In my case, I speeded it up to 300%. So 60 seconds became 20.

Then after we made another sequence named it color matte because we are going to give a color matte and mask to edit the piece. we added a color matte of green color so it's removable by ultra key. We had to make a mask around the source clip to give it an even look of oval shape. I also added feathers around the mask to give it a blending look in the background.

In another sequence first, we added a background video, and then on top of it, we added our matte video. We used the ultra key effect to remove the green screen matte of the clip. Then rendered the final project in two codecs. Apple pro res and standard H264.

After all this, we had an elaborate lecture on life. What life is? How ideologies of a person can affect their life and thinking?. We talked about topics like Plato's cave, utopia, and dystopia. All of this is to incorporate into our next self-portrait project.

The next technical part was fun we got to learn basic level graphic animation in which we had to animate a bunch of color matte across the screen of Rembrandt project. we learn the basic concept of animation through keying. How opacity works on animation. Moreover, I also played with blending modes of color matte and finished the project.
